Defending champions Nottingham Panthers recorded their third successive win in the Elite League after defeating last season's runners-up the Belfast Giants 3-2 at the National Ice Centre.

Brandon Benedict, Chris Capraro and Matt Francis were on target in each of the three periods as Nottingham became the first team in the EIHL era to claim 400 wins in all competitions.

The victory lifts them up to second in the table on eight points, two points behind Dundee having played a game less and two above third-placed Belfast, whose goals in Nottingham came from forwards Chris Higgins and Mark Garside.

In Challenge Cup action, Sheffield Steelers ran out 4-2 winners over Cardiff Devils, while Fife Flyers and Dundee Stars edged all-Scottish encounters with Braehead Clan and Edinburgh Capitals 2-1 and 6-2 respectively.
