Sheffield Steelers got their league campaign off to a devastating start with a 10-3 rout of Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday night.

Maxime Lacroix helped himself to a hat-trick and Jeff Legue bagged a double as Sheffield skated away with an emphatic win in their first league outing.

Reigning champions Nottingham Panthers bounced back from Friday night's 5-2 defeat at Dundee Stars by beating Fife Flyers in a penalty shootout after the scores had been locked at 4-4 at full-time.

Bobby Chaumont had forced overtime with two goals in the third period after the Panthers had built a 4-2 lead with goals from Chris Murray, Brandon Benedict, Lynn Loyns and Stephen Lee.

Coventry Blaze denied Belfast Giants a third straight win by running out 5-0 victors at the Odyssey Arena. Ryan Ginand and Adam Henrich scored a brace each with Michael Henrich contributing a fifth goal.

Elsewhere, Braehead Clan needed a strong third period from Ash Goldie to edge out Cardiff Devils 4-3 in Wales having trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Goldie scored twice with time running out but it was Joel Champagne who netted the winner.
