Belfast Giants thrashed Cardiff Devils 7-2 on Sunday night to complete a perfect start to the 2013-14 Elite League season.
Devils were missing starting netminder Dan LaCosta and his absence had a significant impact on the outcome of the match.
Evan Cheverie gave Belfast a dream start after just 88 seconds before Calvin Elfring doubled the lead in the second period.
Devils hit back strongly, though, and a quick double drew them level. Andrew Conboy got the hosts on the board at 27.19 then at 29.40 Mac Faulkner tied the game on a 5-on-3 powerplay.
Jeff Szwez edged Giants ahead again at 31.58, with that score remaining to the end of the second period.
But a final period blitz blew Cardiff away as Chris Higgins and Adam Keefe double and Robby Sandrock sealed an emphatic win a day after Giants had kicked off the new campaign with a 5-0 rout of Edinburgh Giants.
Elsewhere in the Elite League on Sunday night, Dundee Stars joined Belfast with two wins from two after overcoming Coventry Blaze 3-1.
Stars, who defeated Scottish rivals Braehead Clan 2-1 on Saturday, picked up their second win courtesy of a double from Rory Rawlyk.
Hull Stingrays got their home campaign off to the perfect start with an important 5-2 win over Clan, who themselves lost their second game of the inaugural weekend.
In Challenge Cup action, Nottingham Panthers claimed local bragging rights with a 4-1 road win at Sheffield Steelers, while Fife Flyers edged out Edinburgh 2-1.
