Ashley Tait will captain Coventry Blaze this season
Coventry Blaze have appointed experienced Great Britain forward Ashley Tait as the club's captain for the 2013/14 Rapid Solicitors Elite League campaign.
The 37-year-old returned to the Skydome - where he captained the team to seven trophies in a five-year spell, including the Grand Slam in 2004/05 - on a two-year deal this summer.
Tait takes over the captaincy from Mike Egener after the defenceman was unable to take his place in the line-up this season due to a serious illness. Experienced Brit Russell Cowley and Canadian forward Adam Henrich will be assistant captains.
Coach Matt Soderstrom said: "When Mike told us he was not coming back Ash was my number one choice. Ash is really happy to be back in Coventry, where he has some fond memories and was the captain during our Grand Slam success.
"I needed someone who I felt comfortable with, someone who can help me and someone who I can ask and get advice from. Ash is an experienced guy and along with Russ and Adam we have a strong group of leaders. But we have a lot of leaders who will not be wearing a 'C' or an 'A'.
"Our mindset is to win some silverware this season and hopefully Ash can lift some trophies again for this club."
Tait said: "I am honoured to be chosen as captain. I didn't know Mike Egener but everyone around the club speaks very highly of him and he was well respected."
