Goals from Joe Thornton and TJ Galiardi were enough to force a deciding game in the semi-final series between San Jose and Los Angeles as the Sharks held on for a 2-1 win.

Thornton scored a power-play goal in the first period and Galiardi extended the lead in the second, before Dustin Brown pulled one back for the Kings.

San Jose stood firm, though, to level the semi-final at 3-3 and take the series to a decider on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

"It's followed the script. Home team wins back and forth," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said.

"It's time for us to get there and try to change the story.

"We're going to have to play a much better game than we did last time in that building. But they earned the right for home-ice. It's our job to take it away from them."
