Ryan Callahan's overtime winner saw the New York Rangers clinch a 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes and a place in the play-offs.

The Rangers captain scored nearly three minutes into the additional period to send his side into the play-offs after they had thrown away a 2-0 lead earlier in the game.

Derek Stepan, Derick Brassard and Brad Richards also scored for New York, while the Hurricanes replied through Jiri Tlusty (2) and Tuomo Ruutu.

Ottawa Senators booked their play-off berth after Sergei Gonchar netted less than a minute into OT to seal a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals.

Eliminated

Alex Ovechkin had levelled for the Senators in the third period after Jakob Silfverberg put Washington ahead.

Two goals from Cam Atkinson kept the Columbus Blue Jackets in the play-off hunt as they beat the Dallas Stars 3-1.

Mark Letestu also scored for Columbus against the Stars, who were eliminated by the Detroit Red Wings' 5-2 win over the Nashville Predators.

The Red Wings went seventh in the Western Conference with the win, helped by a goal and two assists from Pavel Datsyuk.

The Winnipeg Jets lost 4-2 to the Montreal Canadiens, who got two goals from David Desharnais, and were eliminated.

There were also wins for the Philadelphia Flyers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Boston Bruins, the New Jersey Devils, the St Louis Blues and the Anaheim Ducks.
