GB face a battle to avoid relegation from World Championship Division One after a 5-1 defeat to top seeds Italy.
It was GB's third successive loss of their Group A campaign in Hungary and a final-day relegation showdown with Korea on Saturday looms.
Italy led after just 61 seconds through Nathan di Casmirro before Robert Farmer, with his first senior goal, levelled at 7.23.
A powerplay marker from Patrick Iannone (21.15) put Italy back in front and two goals inside 13 seconds from Vincent Rocco (42.40) and Markus Gander (42.53) saw them take control.
Daniel Sullivan added a fifth with Italy short-handed at 48.15 before Hull Stingrays netminder Ben Bowns replaced Stephen Murphy at 54.47 to make his World Championship debut.
GB face Japan on Friday with Korea taking on promotion-chasing Kazakhstan before they clash on the final day.
