Jaromir Jagr: On target for Boston Bruins on debut
Jaromir Jagr marked his Boston Bruins debut with a scrappy goal off his skate but it was enough to clinch a 1-0 win against the New Jersey Devils.
At the age of 41, Jagr has taken on a new challenge with his sixth NHL team after joining this week from the Dallas Stars.
The Czech scored in the second minute of the second period, and goaltender Tuukka Rask made 40 saves to defy the Devils and keep Boston on the tails of the Montreal Canadiens, who they face on Saturday in a battle for top spot in the Northeast.
Montreal were 4-1 winners against the Winnipeg Jets, Michael Ryder netting twice and further goals coming from Brian Gionta and Alex Galchenyuk.
The Philadelphia Flyers earned their fourth straight win, beating the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 with goals from Simon Gagne, Jakub Voracek, Brayden Schenn, Luke Schenn and Jay Rosehill, while another debut saw Ben Bishop shut out the Carolina Hurricanes in a 5-0 win for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Washington Capitals needed a shoot-out to edge the New York Islanders 2-1, as did the St Louis Blues to overcome the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3, while the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Nashville Predators 3-1, the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-2, and the Los Angeles Kings blanked the Minnesota Wild 3-0.
