Mark Garside: Opened the scoring for Belfast Giants at home to Sheffield Steelers
Belfast Giants kept alive their hopes of recording successive Elite League titles after recording a convincing 3-1 home victory against Sheffield Steelers.
The Giants are now four points behind leaders Nottingham Panthers while Sheffield are seven points adrift and have played a game more.
Mark Garside opened the scoring within the opening ten minutes at a packed Odyssey Arena and they soon extended their advantage 43 seconds into the second period as Adam Keefe found the net.
Belfast sealed the points as Darryl Lloyd added a third but goaltender Garrett Zemiak could not keep his fifth shutout of the campaign as Tylor Michael scored a consolation during a power play.
Meanwhile, the Panthers were in red-hot form to record their 34th win of the season as they shut out Braehead Clan in a comprehensive 5-0 away win.
Corey Neilson's side moved a step closer to the league title thanks to strikes from Brandon Benedict, David Ling, David Clarke and a brace from Bruce Graham at the Braehead Arena.
Elsewhere, Edinburgh Capitals extended their winning streak at home to four games after thrashing Coventry Blaze 6-2 with Marcus Zembergs scoring a third period hat-trick.
Hull Stingrays remain bottom of the table after a 4-2 defeat at Fife Flyers with Kris Hogg scoring a double for the Scots.
