The Montreal Canadiens consolidated their position as leaders of the Northeast Division with a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre.
Montreal goaltender Carey Price made 17 saves, while Alex Galchenyuk, Erik Cole and Lars Eller finished with a goal and an assist apiece as their side moved to 12-4-2.
Elsewhere in the HL, the Washington Capitals upset the form book to hammer the New Jersey Devils 5-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Alex Ovechkin.
The result moved them off the bottom of the Southeast Division and above the Buffalo Sabres, who lost 4-0 to the New York Islanders.
The Detroit Red Wings claimed a first win in six, Jimmy Howard stopping 33 shots as they recorded a 4-0 success over the Nashville Predators.
The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2, with all but one of the game's goals being scored in a frantic final period.
The Calgary Flames were 3-1 winners at the Minnesota Wild, Matt Stajan scoring his side's second and third in a clinical third period.

The Dallas Stars banished back to back home reverses to see off the San Jose Sharks 3-1 and David Perron grabbed the winner as the St Louis Blues edged the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1.
The Philadelphia Flyers claimed a 5-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets, with Brandon Schenn netting twice for the Flyers.
