Belfast Giants' hopes of defending their Elite League title took a blow as they were sent crashing to a 5-2 home defeat by Coventry Blaze.

The Giants remain two points behind leaders Nottingham in the league table but have now played a game more than the Panthers.

Belfast did make a fast start as Darryl Lloyd fired them ahead after only 79 seconds but Coventry pulled level by the end of the opening period with Derek Campbell finding the net.

The second period saw the Blaze hit the front as Brad Leeb and Adam Henrich were both on target to put the visitors two goals up.

Leeb then scored again in the third period before Noah Clarke pulled one back, but Henrich fired into an empty net late on to give Coventry the last word.
