Hull Stingrays suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat in the Elite League at the hands of Braehead Clan on Wednesday night.
Stingrays found themselves behind after just two minutes through a goal from Matt Hanson.
Hull never recovered from their dismal start and were 3-0 down before the 40-minute mark after strikes from Robert Farmer and Ash Goldie
Jeff Smith gave Hull a glimmer of hope bagging a goal just after 45 minutes had been played.
This was all in a vain though as Jordan Krestanovich completed a solid night's work for Braehead.
Hull's player/coach Sylvain Cloutier said after the game: "They wanted it more. They won all the battles in the first two periods. They out-battled us and out-fought us.
"We had some chances but we left ourselves too much to do. We just did not bear down. We need to take points from every game now and we have a big game on Saturday night against Cardiff and we need to rebound."
Elsewhere in the Challenge Cup, Nottingham Panthers crushed Belfast Giants 5-1 at home in the first leg of their tie.
Panthers head into the second leg full of confidence with strikes from Matt Francis (2), David Clarke (2) and Robert Lachowicz securing the win.
Belfast's consolation goal came from Kevin Saurette.
