Matt Cullen netted twice as the Minnesota Wild handed the Chicago Blackhawks their first defeat of the season with a 3-2 shootout win.

Cullen had opened the scoring for the Wild in the second minute before he netted the decisive shootout goal to deny the Blackhawks a seventh straight win.

Cal Clutterbuck also scored for the Wild after first-period goals from Andrew Shaw and Jonathan Toews had put Chicago 2-1 up.

Roberto Luongo justified his selection with a shutout as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-0.

Picked ahead of Cory Schneider, Luongo made 24 saves, while Jason Garrison, Maxim Lapierre and Zack Kassian all scored for the Canucks.

Nail Yakupov's overtime goal gave the Edmonton Oilers a 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes and the Ottawa Senators beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-1.
