Elite League leaders Belfast Giants were defeated 3-2 after a penalty shootout by Nottingham Panthers, who have moved within four points of the summit with two games in hand.
It was the second time on Odyssey ice that the game between these two teams had gone to a penalty shootout, but this time the outcome was reversed as Nottingham picked up the extra point.
David Ling opened the scoring for the visitors on their first powerplay, and they doubled their advantage on their second powerplay through Anthony Stewart's goal at 16.33.
Adam Keefe of the Giants and Nottingham's Guilaume Lepine then got sent to the sin bin as a fight broke out just before the end of the first period.
Belfast finally got a goal in response as Craig Peacock fired in on the powerplay at 17.52 in the third period as the game went right down to the wire.
A dramatic ending then saw Belfast grab a late equaliser just 30 seconds from the end to send the game into overtime - with Gregory Stewart finding the net.
And so to overtime, which failed to produce a goal and it was the Panthers who kept their nerve in the shootout to win it 3-1 and claim that vital extra point.
