Ryan Carter: Scored the decisive goal
New Jersey Devils moved within one win of the Stanley Cup Final after Ryan Carter hit the decisive score in a 5-3 victory over the New York Rangers.
The Devils had led game five of the Eastern Conference Finals 3-0 but had allowed the Rangers to draw level at Madison Square Garden.
With 4:24 of the third quarter remaining Carter hit the go-ahead goal to give the Devils a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series ahead of game six at the Prudential Center on Friday.
Goals by Stephen Gionta, Patrik Elias and Travis Zajac gave the Devils a 3-0 lead at 9:49 of the first period.
But the Rangers hit back with goals from Brandon Prust in the first period, Ryan Callahan in the second and Marian Gaborik early in the third.
Carter put the Devils back in front late in the third and then Zach Parise hit an empty net for the second straight game to secure the victory.
