Arod (third from left): Leicester next
Arod is set to have a low-key engagement for his next start after finishing fourth in the Investec Derby.
The Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained colt will drop back to a mile and a quarter for a conditions race at Leicester on July 17, an event won in facile fashion by the smart Telescope last year.
Connections want to keep the son of Teofilo to the shorter distance over which he was second to subsequent French Derby winner The Grey Gatsby in the Dante Stakes.
Plans were discussed after the three-year-old worked at Newmarket on Tuesday morning.
"He worked very nicely. We are discussing options but I think the most likely one he will take up is a conditions race at Leicester in a couple of weeks and we'll step him up from there," said David Redvers, racing manager for owners Qatar Racing.
"We'll probably keep him at a mile and a quarter because he's showing plenty of speed."
Arod's high-profile stablemate Hydrogen will not be seen again until the autumn.
The Galileo colt, who cost owners Qatar Racing 2.5 million guineas as a yearling, was only sixth on his debut at Newmarket in May.
"He's fine. We're just building him up slowly again having had a break. He'll be back on the track in the autumn," said Redvers.
"We'll just see what's around for him and get him back on track."
