Elite Army is set for a run at Glorious Goodwood
Elite Army will go on trial for the St Leger in the Neptune Investment Management Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
His trainer Saeed bin Suroor had nominated the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket as his likely next target following his impressive win in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot last week.
However, he will now head to Sussex for a race used by the likes of Sixties Icon and Conduit as a stepping stone to St Leger glory in recent years.
"Elite Army is good. He's content, well, fresh and happy," said Bin Suroor.
"He will just have an easy time of it until the end of the month and then we'll start building him up towards Goodwood and the Leger trial.
"He was very keen at Sandown in his race before Ascot but still won. We hoped he would relax a bit better at Ascot yet he still pulled hard.
"I have always liked him, that's why I gave him the name Elite Army, and we have time to teach him to settle.
"I'm not too worried about the Leger trip as it is not until September so we hope to teach him to settle before then. That will be the key."
