Tom Dascombe: Thanked Ripon clerk of the course
Capo Rosso made the most of a trip to North Yorkshire in the search for decent ground as he held on to land the £25,000 Ripon, Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse Handicap.
Tom Dascombe had been forced to miss the Chester May meeting with the locally-owned four-year-old due to the rain-softened surface on the Roodee, but that patience was rewarded with a determined display.
Given a positive ride by Richard Kingscote, the 15-2 chance quickened again over a furlong out and had enough in reserve to hold the strong-finishing Bold Prediction by half a length.
Dascombe said: "I'd like to thank the clerk of the course, I've been on to him all week about the ground and he told me it was as good as it was going to get.
"This is a very nice prize to win, it was a shame he couldn't run at Chester, but there was no point trying to be clever - he just can't handle the soft. I'll speak to the syndicate manager about where he wants to go next and it will be a nice conversation."
