George Margarson is still targeting a tilt at the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot with Lucky Kristale despite her disappointing display in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

George Margarson is still targeting a tilt at the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot with Lucky Kristale despite her disappointing display in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The Lucky Story filly won four of her five starts as a juvenile over six furlongs, including the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes on the July course and the Lowther Stakes at York.

Stepped up to a mile for the first time in Sunday's Classic, Lucky Kristale pulled hard in the hands of Tom Queally and after suffering interference at halfway, weakened out of contention to finish last but one, with only favourite Tapestry behind.

Margarson feels questions about the trip remain unanswered for his stable star and is keen on another attempt at the mile at the Royal meeting.

He said: "She has a few cuts and bruises, but they are superficial injuries and other than that she's fine.

"She ate up last night, so there are no problems on that score and I think we're just going to have to put a line through it.

"It was a messy race for a Classic. They went slow early on and she was obviously a bit keen, which was quite a surprise as she's normally such a relaxed filly.

"She jumped out and wanted to get on with her job. Then she got bumped and that is probably where she got a few cuts, which won't have helped.

"Tom eased her down when he knew her chance had gone and unfortunately we are no better placed now than we were beforehand as to whether she stays a mile.

"Hopefully she'll be back trotting on Tuesday. We'll see how she trains in the next week or two and then make a plan.

"I think we'll still train her with the Coronation Stakes in mind. If she tells us she needs a bit longer, then we'll wait.

"We know she is much better than she showed on Sunday, but we live to fight another day and we'll move on."
