Nigel Twiston-Davies: No plans to appoint new stable jockey

Nigel Twiston-Davies does not intend to appoint a new stable jockey in the wake of his son Sam taking up the top job with Paul Nicholls.

The younger Twiston-Davies had ridden several of Nicholls' big guns throughout the season, notably Tidal Bay and Big Buck's, but will now take over from Daryl Jacob as retained rider for the champion trainer.

Father and son teamed up 414 times last season, but the Naunton handler feels he will be available on enough occasions so that he will not need to formally replace him.

It was announced that the ride on The New One will always be Twiston-Davies' and given he has yet to leave home, the 21-year-old will still be a pivotal part of his father's plans.

"I'm not really losing a stable jockey because he'll still be living here," said Twiston-Davies.

"He will still be riding plenty for me when he's available.

"There's no point hiring anybody else - when he can, he'll be riding.

"It's a big opportunity for him, he's joining the champion trainer and hopefully he'll be winning plenty of big races."
