Battalion could make his seasonal reappearance at Sandown on Friday, if conditions are suitable.
The lightly-raced four-year-old, trained by William Haggas, is ready to step up to Group company in the bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes over an extended mile and a quarter at the Esher course if the ground is soft enough.
Connections would have been heartened by the going being described on the round course there as soft, good to soft in places following 15 millimetres of rain on Monday night into Tuesday morning.
However should he miss that Group Three contest, connections would switch the son of Authorized to the mile and a half Group Two Qatar Bloodstock Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket a week on Saturday if the heavens opened.
"It's very ground dependent", said Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum.
"If it was soft he would probably run at Sandown. If not he'd go for the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket if the ground was soft there.
"The horse look great and he has strengthened up since last year. It is a big step up for him.
"The race at Sandown is probably a bit short in trip, but he has to start somewhere and it is the ground that is the key."
