Conditional jockey Tom Bellamy is determined to make a faster-than-expected return after he suffered a broken leg at Taunton last week.

Bellamy, who is attached to the David Pipe yard, could be out for up to six months following a fractured right femur inccured as a result of Emerald Glade running out at the final flight of a selling handicap hurdle.

Bellamy is, however, adamant he will be back in the saddle far sooner than has been anticipated by surgeons.

He said: "I got back home from hospital on Saturday after having an operation on Friday evening to have the leg plated.

"It's obviously disappointing, but I'm not in any pain and if you are going to get an injury, now is probably the best time to get one.

"The hospital said it will not be fully healed for around six months, but I'd like to think I might be fit in around 12 or 13 weeks."
