Hillstar misses the Eclipse

Our gallops reporter heads to Sir Michael Stoute's stable in Newmarket to get the lowdown on his forthcoming runners.

HILLSTAR has given every indication his run in Royal Ascot's Hardwicke Stakes has done much to help him settle and the colt looked in good order blowing out ahead of a possible crack at the Coral-Eclipse.

Sir Michael Stoute's charge had taken a keen hold in his first couple of races back this year, but Frankie Dettori succeeded in getting him beautifully switched off in his latest Group Two mission.

The combination met interference in the straight but nevertheless came through to claim second behind stablemate Telescope.

Hillstar will need to raise his game in Sandown's seasonal highlight but looks on very good terms with himself.

ASTONISHING may tackle the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock and she took the eye in some readying work.

The four-year-old finished well-beaten on her first visit to Merseyside at the end of May and needs to bounce back if she is to net a Group Two contest in which her trainer has such a good record.

There isn't much of RADIATOR, but the Khalid Abdullah-owned filly demonstrated that she shows more on the racecourse than at home with a solid run in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

She went nicely in her latest piece of stronger work and could challenge for the Coral Distaff at Sandown.

STOMACHION has been holding his own in decent company and signalled he'll be a leading player in the Old Newton Cup with an eyecatching workout, while GOTHIC served notice that his disappointing recent run at Sandown can be improved upon as he came up on the bridle.

ENOBLED looked a shade unfortunate at the same Sandown meeting, hitting bad traffic at the business end. He is a winner without a penalty and after some pleasing subsequent work should soon make up for that disappointment.
