Next Sensation is likely to swerve the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter next Tuesday in order to run at Ascot on Saturday.
Fourth in the Grand Annual at the Cheltenham Festival in March, Michael Scudamore's progressive two-miler soared through the handicap after winning three chases last season.
The seven-year-old is still in contention to make his reappearance at Exeter, but Scudamore intends to run him in the Byrne Group Handicap Chase this weekend.
He told the Daily Mail: "Plan A is to run at Ascot on Saturday. Physically, he looks like he has improved again.
"He looked a frame of a horse last year and all the signs are that he is a better horse. He is working better. We will see on Saturday."
