Glenard comes good at York

A positive ride from William Buick helped Glenard get off the mark for the campaign with a determined triumph in the Sky Bet Transfer Fund Stakes at York.
Last seen finishing third behind red-hot Ebor favourite Pallasator at Ascot under more patient tactics, the Charlie Hills-trained four-year-old was quickly away on the Knavesmire and was soon bowling along at the head of affairs.
Buick kicked clear early in the straight to get his rivals under pressure, but Salutation covered the move and Dolphin Village was also finishing off to good effect.
Salutation looked likely to win the argument when heading Glenard inside the final furlong, but 12-1 shot roared back admirably and passed the post a neck to the good.
Dolphin Village was a further length and a quarter away in third, with Pearl Castle fourth.
Hills said: "William gave him a great ride. That was the plan (to make the running) and it's nice when you get the script right.
"I've always liked him and knew he was capable of winning a race like this.
"He looked like he was going to win the Northumberland Plate and he looks like a nice horse for Australia.
"He'll probably go to the Mallard Stakes (September 12) next at Doncaster."
The Sky Bet Convivial Maiden Stakes, the most valuable race of its type run all season, went the way of the impressive Luca Cumani-trained newcomer White Lake.
Despite costing 240,000gns and being ridden by Ryan Moore he was still sent off at 25-1.
Matt Cumani, assistant to his father, said: "That was very exciting and he's our first two-year-old winner.
"Ryan said he only had to give him one flick, he mentioned the Horris Hill and the Autumn Stakes, which is a race we like."
David Elsworth's Master The World (16-1) quickened up impressively to win the Nationwide Accident Repair Services Stakes under Kieren Fallon.
Owner Chris Benham said: "We ran him in the Guineas and we rushed him for that, but he's shown how good he is today."
