William Haggas described Mukhadram as a "little bit sore" the morning after his slightly disappointing display in the Juddmonte International at York.
The Coral-Eclipse hero and King George third appeared to have sound claims returning to a mile and a quarter at a track where he had tasted success, but having cut out the running, he faded late in the day to finish fourth of six runners.
Haggas told Channel 4 Racing: "He's a little bit sore. He got struck into on his right hind (leg), Not an excuse of any description.
"He's one out of five lame on that right hind, but I think that's nothing.
"I don't know quite what to make of it (the run), but it didn't happen yesterday."
