Mighty Yar (5/1 cf) took the opening race on Newmarket's card on QIPCO 1000 Guineas day.
Fourteen went to post for the QIPCO Supporting British Racing Stakes and it was Ryan Moore that was to bring the Lady Cecil-trained grey home on what was only his fourth racecourse start.
Moore said: "He was struggling on that ground in places. It was beautiful yesterday, but it's dried out a fair bit today."
Lady Cecil said: "He's a giant of a horse and he should only be coming into his own this year.
"We've had to take our time with him but we've given him plenty of time.
"Ryan gave him a great ride today and while the ground is lovely, it was quick enough for him.
"The Ebor could be a possibility but we'll just see, he ran over a mile-six at Nottingham and it seemed too far."
Miss Marjurie (33/1) ran on well to be second with Amralah back in third.
