There are 33 fillies still remaining in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 4 following the latest forfeit stage.
Roger Varian has left both Princess Noor and Hadaatha in the 201st running of the one mile fillies’ Classic.Princess Noor, winner in 2013 of the Group 3 Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes and runner-up in the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes, is described as a “definite runner” by Varian, while Hadaatha, a winner of a maiden on her debut at the Craven Meeting last week, is only a possible at this stage.
Varian said: “Princess Noor is doing well and her work has been good. She has a stamina question to answer as all her form last year was over six furlongs, but she is quite relaxed – which should help her get the mile – and Johnny Murtagh said when he got off her after the Cheveley Park that he thought she had a chance of getting it.
“She had a very high level of form as a two-year-old so is definitely entitled to take her chance. If she gets the mile she will run a big race.”
On Hadaatha, he said: “She has come out of last week’s Newmarket maiden race victory well.
“Although we have not 100 per cent ruled the Guineas out, I think that it may come too soon for her. She will do a piece of work this weekend and we will decide afterwards.”
The remaining contenders include the winners of the two biggest trials – Sandiva (Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes) and J Wonder (Dubai Duty Free Stakes) – not to mention the ante post favourite, Rizeena, and eight overseas-trained contenders headed by My Titania, Tapestry and Miss France.
