Baily Green put up a game front-running performance but the ground found him out as Bog Warrior (5-2) jumped into the lead at the final fence.
Paul Carberry held Tony Martin's Gigginstown House Stud-owned 10-year-old together to bring him home the winner by three lengths.
Martin said: "If ever a horse deserved to win a race it's him. He deserves to win a proper race.
"It's great that he's come back. He was in great form going to the North (Down Royal) but it was trainer error to have run him on that ground. I hadn't the heart to pull him out. He has to have that ground (heavy).
"The man (Carberry) suited him and he jumped great. If he'd had an injury-free career he could have been anything. You don't come across a horse like this every day of the week - he's a bit special."
Gigginstown also struck with Mozoltov (4-7 favourite), who had to work hard to land the odds in the navanracecourswe.ie Novice Chase.
Davy Russell made most of the running on Willie Mullins' charge, but Irish Thistle put in a strong bid in the straight and kept the margin down to two lengths.
The leading pair pulled 18 lengths clear of Pageboy in third.
"We probably went a bit quicker than I would have liked," said Russell, who was completing a double after scoring on 33-1 outsider Baby King in the Annual Family Day 18th May (C&G) Maiden Hurdle.
"I didn't want Mount Colah getting to the front but he settled better than he has done in the past.
"He jumped very well bar the fifth last. He was after jumping so well that I gave him a squeeze but he was cleverer than I was. He liked the ground there."
