Cirrus Des Aigles: Beaten at Chantilly
It was a case of the same old story for Cirrus Des Aigles after he was beaten on his seasonal reappearance again on Tuesday.
Corine Barande-Barbe's gelding is now eight-years-old but he clearly isn't any easier to get fit off a break judging by his effort in the Prix Meydan Hotel on the Chantilly polytrack.
Sent to the lead in the early stages by Christophe Soumillon, the former QIPCO Champion Stakes and Dubai Sheema Classic winner remained in front until the home straight, where he was swamped by a posse of closers.
Now We Can won the race in a tight finish from Mortga, with Zazou third. Cirrus Des Aigles dropped out of the places in fourth, but he didn't fare as bad as last year's Investec Derby fifth, Ocovango, who came home plum last.
Cirrus Des Aigles had shown signs of regression in the early part of last season, but ended his campaign with two good placed efforts; when second to Farrh in the Champion Stakes and when third to Akeed Mofeed in the Hong Kong Cup.
