Australia could have a filly to step into the hooves of the legendary Black Caviar as Earthquake continued her progression through the sprinting ranks with victory in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Despite holding an unfavourable draw of 15, the daughter of Exceed and Excel was an emphatic winner of the AUS $1m event under Damian Browne and she was more than value for the winning margin of one-and-a-half lengths.
The winning rider told racenet.com.au: " On the corner, I gave her a couple of slaps and she picked them up in two strides. The last furlong she was just loafing and doing half-pace."
"She picked them up that easy and then she just got lost so there's plenty of room for upside there."
Earthquake provided trainer Peter Snowden with his second Blue Diamond win following Sepoy's victory in 2011.
