Rock On Ruby: Arkle hopeful
Arkle hopeful Rock On Ruby is 'buzzing' following his victory over Mr Mole at Doncaster last week.
The former Champion Hurdle winner was too good for Paul Nicholls' charge in an effective match race on Town Moor and now all roads lead to the Racing Post Arkle at Cheltenham.
Speaking in his Stan James blog, trainer Harry Fry said: "He's come out of the race well and he's buzzing so we're all very pleased and now we've got four weeks to get him to his very best again.
"A bit more match practice, plenty of schooling, and we'll look forward to the day. And if the ground dries out, I think we definitely go there with a winning chance. I see no reason why not.
"We know he's a very talented horse and so far, so good on the jumping front. Everywhere could do with a dry spell now and we hope Cheltenham gets a good dry spell in the lead-up to the Festival."
Rock On Ruby is a best-priced 8/1 to land the Arkle, but Fry believes he remains underestimated.
"They're crabbing him because he's a nine-year-old and nine-year-olds aren't supposed to win the Arkle," Fry continued.
"But there aren't many previous Champion Hurdle winners that have gone on to contest an Arkle. It's a step into the unknown but we're very happy with where the horse is and as a team we're very much looking forward to it."
