Golantilla is set to make an appearance in Scotland within the next fortnight before having a rare second crack at the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March.

The six-year-old made a huge impression when winning a Cork bumper for Sean O'Brien in January of last year, prompting leading owner Barry Connell to snap him up to be trained by Tony Martin.

Golantilla lined up at the Festival as a major contender and was far from disgraced in finishing third behind Briar Hill, but he has not been seen in competitive action since.

Connell said: "He's working well and the plan is for him to run in a bumper at either Ayr (February 11) or Musselburgh (February 12) the week after next before hopefully going back to Cheltenham.

"He's had a couple of small, niggly things that stopped him running earlier in the season.

"At this stage of the year, we didn't see there was much point of running him over hurdles and losing his maiden tag.

"There isn't really a suitable bumper in Ireland coming up for him, so we'll hopefully take him to Scotland for a run.

"We only had him six weeks before Cheltenham last year and it was all a bit of a rush to get him there.

"He ran very well and obviously handled the track. Going back as a six-year-old, with a run under his belt, I think he's going to be very hard to beat."
