The seven-year-old had a spell with David Wachman in Ireland before joining Cumani in 2012 and won twice that summer before going on to finish a luckless fifth in the Melbourne Cup.
He kicked off 2013 with victory in the Group Three Ormonde Stakes at Chester and returned to Flemington to run another excellent race in the 'race that stops a nation', this time placing third under Craig Williams.
A ninth placed finish in last month's Hong Kong Vase proved to be his final start for Cumani, with Botti now likely to prepare his new recruit for a trip to the Dubai Carnival at Meydan.
Koukash said on his Twitter feed: "(I would) like to thank Luca Cumani for looking after Mount Athos for the last two years. Mount Athos will join the Marco Botti yard so he could run in Dubai."
