AP McCoy celebrates his 4000th winner
Champion jockey AP McCoy is odds-on to collect an 19th championship this season but will remember 2013 for passing the unprecedented 4000th winner mark.
The Irishman memorably reached the 4000th landmark aboard Mountain Tunes on Thursday, November 7 at Towcester.
The 6/4 favourite had looked to be struggling on the home turn but gradually closed in upon leader Kris Spin from the second-last flight and under the kind of determined drive that has become McCoy's trademark got up in the last strides.
McCoy told Sky Sports News: "I absolutely love what I do and my biggest fear in life is the day when I'm not going to be able to do it any longer.
"I wanted to become a jockey because I liked riding horses, it was my hobby and I've been lucky enough to live my life through it, so I'm in a very priveleged position that's for sure.
"When I was at the races I thought it would be nice if it happened today. Before the race Jonjo O'Neill said, you know, ride him quite confidently, he's a young horse (and) I got a little bit further back than I would have liked.
"I know that one of the girls in the pub I own a share in turned to the other and said 'Does he know what he's actually doing'? But I suppose the way the race actually happened added to the actual dramatics of the day. It made it a little bit exciting if nothing else and good TV."
