Chriselliam: Spearheads the European challenge
Group One Newmarket winners Chriselliam and Vorda form part of a very strong European challenge for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Santa Anita next Friday.
The former, who caused a bit of an upset for Charlie Hills in the Fillies' Mile at Ascot, should be joined on the trip from Britain by the Marco Botti-trained Al Thakhira, who was so impressive in the Rockfel Stakes.
Philippe Sogorb was quick to nominate this event for Cheveley Park winner Vorda's first start at a mile, while another among the 17 pre-entries is Dermot Weld's Flying Jib, who took a recent Curragh Listed event in fine style.
Aidan O'Brien has won the last two renewals of the Juvenile Turf with George Vancouver and Wrote, both of whom were ridden by Ryan Moore.
He is expecting to run both Giovanni Boldini and Wilshire Boulevard.
Giovanni Boldini was a close third to Toormore in the National Stakes and then impressed in a Dundalk Listed event, while Wilshire Boulevard won the Anglesey Stakes before finishing second in the Gimcrack and fourth in the Lagardere.
"Both are working towards it, and everything is going according to plan so far," said O'Brien.
"It was only Giovanni Boldini's second start (in the National Stakes), just a week after he started, and I think probably in an ideal world it was a bit quick for him. He then won nicely in Dundalk
"The ground was a bit soft for Wilshire Boulevard on Arc day, but he's a good traveller and loves fast ground. You'd be hoping the two of them would have a chance, they are both in good form and are better on faster ground."
Charlie Appleby has entered his Champagne Stakes winner and Dewhurst third Outstrip for the race, while Richard Hannon is expected to run Shamshon, who prefers a quicker surface.
Sir Michael Stoute's Beverly D. Stakes winner Dank is engaged in the Filly & Mare Turf along with the Andre Fabre-trained Romantica.
Jo Hughes' London Bridge is the only European representative in the Marathon.
