The Sky Sports News-owned racehorse On Demand was unplaced but ran a race full of promise on her debut in the EBF & Sam Sheppard Quidhamption Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Salisbury.

The Andrew Balding-trained juvenile was sent off at odds of 10/1 and broke smartly, showing good speed and leading the 11-strong field a furlong into the race.

She was always prominent and responded gamely when asked for her effort by jockey David Probert two furlongs from home.

The two-year-old was still in with a shout with a furlong to go but weakened in the final stages of the race to finish sixth, just a couple of lengths behind eventual winner Rosehill Artist.

Her jockey was delighted with the way she ran and is hopeful there is much more to come from the filly.

"She's just weakened a little when I let her go but she hasn't had a hard race and there's plenty more to come from her," said Probert. "It rode like a good race and I think she's nice."

Trainer Balding agreed and said he was "really pleased" with On Demand's performance.

"She's just tired in the last 100 yards and lost three places quickly but this is always quite a strong race and some of the big stables had runners," he said.

"I think the next time her fitness level will improve and the whole thing of having the experience of everything that goes with a raceday will have brought her on.

"At this stage of the season experience is so important for a filly like this and with this under her belt, I think she's good enough to win a similar race."

On Demand's story began in March when Sky Sports News viewers voted for her name through an online poll that attracted over 3,000 voters.

With the name chosen and training underway, April saw the horse's colours and jockey's silks selected and designed.

The final design - again chosen by Sky Sports News viewers - was one of a blue body with a red disc and white sleeves.
