Meister Eckhart could make his second trip to the Cheltenham Festival as trainer Alan King eyes a crack at the Coral Cup.
The seven-year-old finished fifth in the Albert Bartlett last year when trained by Rebecca Curtis and was off then off the track until making his debut for King at Fontwell on Sunday.
Meister Eckhart ran a fine race to finish second to Prospect Wells in the Grade Two National Spirit Hurdle, racing off level weights with a horse who is officially 7lb his superior.
King was pleased with his charge's first attempt under his care and is keen to see Meister Eckhart's revised mark with a view to the two-mile-five-furlong handicap on March 13.
"The plan for the moment is to wait and see what the handicapper does. I don't think he can be too hard on him," said King.
"We will see what he does, but if he's not too severe and all is right with the horse, the Coral Cup would be the plan. We were delighted with him. We've not had him all that long but we really like what we have seen of him."
