Malcolm Jefferson: His Mac Aeda is on course for Haydock

Malcolm Jefferson is looking for an improved performance from Mac Aeda in the Betfred Grand National Trial at Haydock on Saturday.

While the North Yorkshire trainer has been satisfied with the nine-year-old's performances this season, he believes Mac Aeda has yet to hit top form.

Mac Aeda did show signs of a revival when he was third to Cannington Brook in the Tommy Whittle Chase over Haydock's three miles in December on his latest start. He will be stepping up in grade at the weekend and will race off bottom weight.

"The weights have gone up, he's now on 10st 1lb for the bottom weight, so all being well he goes," said Jefferson.

"He's run well this year, but he just hasn't clicked yet. He's in good nick anyhow so we'll give it a go."
