Cantlow, favourite for several handicap chases at the Cheltenham Festival, is likely to have his final run before the big meeting over hurdles.
Paul Webber's charge has progressed steadily this season and has won his last two starts nicely.
Having finished third over three miles in the Pertemps Final last March, many expect him to improve further when he is eventually stepped up in trip over the bigger obstacles.
"We know that he stays further from last year but we didn't want to bottom him on this heavy ground, that's why we're keeping him to shorter distances, there's nothing clever or shrewd about it," Webber told At The Races.
"I don't know yet where he'll have his next run before Cheltenham.
"I guess if we're looking at a handicap we may have to run him over hurdles."
