The New One: Jockey says he knows what to do now
Sam Twiston-Davies has hinted at a change of tactics for exciting novice The New One at the Cheltenham Festival.
The young jockey kicked for home before the last and quickly went clear in last Saturday's Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle before being worn down by At Fishers Cross in the heavy ground.
He will head for the Festival as one of the favourites for the race of the same name while the winner goes for the Albert Bartlett.
It was a mixed day for the Twiston-Davies family at Cheltenham, with Mad Moose outrunning his odds to finish second in the Victor Chandler while Imperial Commander was worn down in the Argento Chase by Cape Tribulation.
"When I watched the replay when I got home, I thought The New One should have won but he lost nothing in defeat. At Fishers Cross is a very good horse but we know our fella is as well," Twiston-Davies told At The Races.
"Come the Festival, we know exactly what to do now.
"We had three seconds - two Grade Twos and a Grade One. We were delighted with the Grade One second, we could never have imagined that, but to go from that high, we went to a low.
"We were delighted with Imperial Commander, to see him come back off a lay off and run a massive race, but at the same time it would have been lovely to win. He's safe and sound now though so you can only be happy."
