Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, who caught the eye in the Breeders' Cup Mile, is the headline act among the American entries while Mike De Kock's Igugu has carried all before her in South Africa.
A total of 11 countries are represented among the mammoth entries, including 11 horses from Japan.
Royal Delta and Little Mike may travel from America while there are five Irish entries, including Jim Bolger's Parish Hall.
Red Cadeaux, Grandeur and Dunaden appear while Aidan O'Brien's sole entry is Declaration Of War.
Among the Sheema Classic nominations are Cirrus Des Aigles and Brown Panther, while Penitent is in the Duty Free possibles.
"In 2002 we had 87 horses nominated for the Dubai World Cup at the free nominations stage, this year we have 272," said Martin Talty, International Manager for the Dubai Racing Club.
"A total of 23 countries are represented in these nominations for our programme of six Group One races, two Group Twos and one Group Three."
