Aidan Coleman says Katenko could go for the Betfred Gold Cup

Katenko could be a live outsider for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup according to jockey Aidan Coleman.

The gelding, who would've bypassed an entry at Haydock this weekend even if the meeting had survived, could also feature in next year's John Smith's Grand National should everything go to plan.

"Hopefully I will be part of the Gold Cup," Coleman said in his Racing UK blog.

"The owner of Katenko is keen to go that route and if he keeps improving the way he has so far in his three races in the UK, he could be a live outsider.

"I do genuinely think he could be a Grand National horse as he ticks all the boxes, so perhaps he might line up at Aintree next year, but there's a lot of water to pass under the bridge first.

"He was entered at Haydock, although was never going to run - even before it was called off - and I guess he might run at Cheltenham at the end of the month or Newbury in February; we'll have to see what Venetia (Williams) has planned."

Coleman has also cast an eye over the entries for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle and says that Quevega could take it in even after a run in the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle should her trainer wish.

"If she was mine I would run her in the mares' hurdle - a race which she should win again barring any accidents - and then see how she comes out of the race," added the jockey.

"Given Festival wins are so precious I would always take the easier option. But if she's ok, then I would have a crack at the World Hurdle as well two days later."
