Cappa Bleu: Set to run 'somewhere' in January

Evan Williams is no hurry to make plans for his John Smith's Grand National hope Cappa Bleu.

While the Llancarfan based handler is looking to give last year's Aintree fourth a run somewhere later this month, his aim is to get the horse in peak condition for the world's greatest steeplechase on April 6.

Cappa Bleu was third at Carlisle on his seasonal reappearance in November and Williams decided not to go for the Welsh National, in which he was third last term, because of the prospect of heavy ground at Chepstow on Saturday.

"Cappa Bleu is good. I took him out of the Welsh National because the ground will be exceptionally heavy there," said Williams.

"We'll run him somewhere now in January and see him pop up there. It was nice to get the run at Carlisle out of the way. When we find decent ground somewhere we will run him again.

"The Grand National has always been my intention and where I've been trying to get with the horse. I'm certainly in no rush.

"The horse has had a run and he's has had a nice time since. My main objective is to get him to Aintree, hopefully fit and well on the day."

Cappa Bleu is generally available at 25-1 to go through three places better in this year's National.
