Cheltenham has announced a precautionary inspection on Sunday at 10am ahead of their scheduled meeting on New Year's Day.

The amount of rain is the concern at Prestbury Park, where another star-studded card is set to be staged.

Clerk of the course Simon Claisse said: "It's precautionary because we are raceable at the moment, but we have a weather forecast which causes us a bit of concern.

"We are forecast another 27 millimetres of rain, on top of the 57 millimetres we have had since the last meeting on December 15, on ground that is already heavy.

"We are set for something like seven or eight tomorrow, then a further four or five millimetres on Sunday. Forecasts have been known to be wrong, but we will take a look."
