Trainer Lawney Hill is leaning towards the Betfred Becher Handicap Chase as Minella Theatre's preferred option at Aintree on Saturday.
The nine-year-old also holds an entry in the Betfred "Goals Galore" Grand Sefton Handicap Chase.
The Oxfordshire trainer is keen for Minella Theatre to tackle the famous Grand National obstacles again after he finished sixth in the Topham Chase in April.
"The only sticking point is that the horse looks like running from out of the handicap," Hill told At The Races.
"The Becher Chase would be preferable. Ballabriggs runs, from what we've heard, and I think Big Fella Thanks runs as well so we're probably we are going to be out of the handicap.
"If Ballabriggs runs a lot of horses are going to be out of the handicap as well, so we are not completely on our own there.
"I'd love to get him to run in one of those races up there. It would be good for the stable to have a runner over the National fences again."
