Saphir River is set to revert to the smaller obstacles for Saturday's valuable Don't Settle For Less "Fixed Brush" Handicap Hurdle at Haydock.

Lucinda Russell had handed her gelding an alternative entry in a novice chase at the Lancashire track on Friday, and Saphir River has already competed over fences, winning very easily at Uttoxeter earlier this month.

An exciting recruit from France, Saphir River ran over hurdles at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals for Michael Scudamore, son of Russell's partner Peter.

However, he has changed hands and now belongs to Sandy Seymour, owner of the late Albert Bartlett winner Brindisi Breeze.

"He's going to run him in the hurdle - I only put him in the chase in case Big Buck's ran in the hurdle - but he's safely in the handicap now," said Russell.

"I think he's made for the fixed brush hurdles, as he was a close second in a Grade One at Auteuil.

"He jumped well on his chasing debut and can go back over fences after this."
