Overturn: Set for chasing debut
Donald McCain is set to give Overturn his eagerly-awaited debut over fences in the Bet on Today's Football At Bluesq.com Beginners' Chase at Sandown on Saturday.
This year's Champion Hurdle runner-up was scheduled to run at Wetherby last Saturday but was pulled out by his trainer due to the ground turning too soft.
McCain does expect to saddle his versatile and classy performer at the Surrey venue, despite some rain being forecast ahead of the meeting.
"The forecast rain isn't a worry, but obviously I will have a look at the ground when I arrive tomorrow just to make sure," said the Cholmondeley trainer.
"He will travel down in the morning and unless it has changed dramatically, then he will run."
Sandown's director of racing Andrew Cooper reported that after a fairly dry week, the ground on the chase course is good to soft, good along the back straight and the hurdles track is soft, good to soft in the back straight.
"We are forecast about five to eight millimetres of rain tonight after midnight," said Cooper.
"It will ease the ground slightly but it shouldn't change the going dramatically."
Overturn is among just a field of four for the two-mile heat, although two are from the top stables in the land with Paul Nicholls' running Polisky and Nicky Henderson relying on Thanks For Coming. Noel Chance's Fabulous Fred makes up the quartet.
