Kieren Fallon has been hit with a five-day suspension for appearing to strike his mount, Two Sugars, at the start at Lingfield.
The six-times champion jockey will sit out racing from November 22-24, 26-27 after the local stewards found Fallon guilty of improper conduct.
The starter reported that Two Sugars, trained by Louise Best, refused to enter the stalls and was withdrawn from the Freebets.co.uk Free Bets Handicap.
The stewards held an inquiry to consider why Fallon had appeared to strike his horse over the head as the gelding was being led back after it had been withdrawn.
After hearing the evidence and viewing recordings of the incident, the stewards found him guilty of improper conduct.
