Solemia: Set to have one more run

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Solemia could bring down the curtain on her racing career with one final run in the Far East.

Trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias and her owners the Wertheimer brothers have decided a trip to America for the Breeders' Cup will be too much, too soon for their filly, who memorably caught the Japanese runner Orfevre in the final few strides of Sunday's race.

Solemia is set to join the family's successful breeding operation at the end of the year but they have already unearthed a potential replacement with Laffon-Parias in Silasol, who just repelled her stablemate Topaze Blanche in the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac earlier in the afternoon.

"I spoke to Carlos earlier today and he said she is very well and he's happy with her - as he would be!" said the Wertheimer's racing manager, Pierre-Yves Bureau.

"It was just an amazing day and extra special with Silasol, another home-bred, winning a Group One on the same day.

"What we know now is that Solemia will not go to the Breeders' Cup, it comes quite quickly.

"We will see how she comes out of the race but we think if she has one more run, it will be in Japan or Hong Kong. Next year she will probably be a broodmare."

Silasol was taking a big step forward from her previous start, when she won a conditions race over the same course and distance by a neck.

"It was especially good because she is by Monsun and was not expected to be so precocious," said Bureau.

"She will make a nice three-year-old and all the family improve. She should stay well and although she is already a Group One winner, she looks like she might be more of an Oaks than a Guineas filly."
